Smoky crispy air fryer chickpeas

A can of chickpeas, one tablespoon of oil, and a crunchy snack in about 12 minutes.

Let's make it.

  1. Spread the chickpeas on a towel and rub them dry. Lift away any loose skins that come off.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 385°F.
  3. Toss the chickpeas with the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder and salt.
  4. Tip them into the preheated basket in an even layer.
  5. Air-fry 12 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Taste one after a minute of cooling. If the center is still soft, give the batch a few more minutes and check again.
The little thing that matters

Drying is the whole trick. Chickpeas straight from the can are wet, and that water has to steam off before they can crisp.

For meat and seafood, use a food thermometer and the current safe minimum temperature chart to verify doneness. Never pour oil into the air fryer basket; a light coat on the food is enough.
